Holywell Music Room - Music from the New World

On Friday, Years 2 to 4 explored the New World in our Story of the World History course. Today we are going to the New World with Antonin Dvorak.

The symphony by Antonin Dvorak is inspired by the poem 'The Song of Hiawatha' by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Dvorak uses both traditional native American tunes and rhythms in his music as well as African American spirituals. See if you can hear 'Swing Low, Sweet Chariot' in his music.

You will recognise many of the themes in this piece of music but I learnt many new things by listening to LaRae and am looking forward to listening to it again with fresh ears.
